Dostana is the first Bollywood blockbuster where mainstream, straight
actors play gay characters. Kunal and Sameer (John Abraham and Abhishek Bachan) are two straight guys who pretend to be a gay couple so as to secure a posh Miami apartment. However, the plot takes a hilarious turn when both men fall for their adorable roommate Neha, played by Priyanka Chopra. The New York Times raves the film “irreverently normalizes a topic that has been virtually absent from screens in India.”

TARUN MANSUKHANI
Born and raised in Mumbai, Tarun Mansukhani moved to Simla for his schooling which he completed at Lawrence School, Sanawar. He then moved back to Bombay and graduated from H.R college of commerce. Tarun’s first job was on the show Dekh bhai dekh which was directed by Anand Mahendroo who incidentally Karan Johar had also worked with. Through this common connection Karan contacted Tarun and asked him to be a part of this first film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
Tarun then parlayed his exprecience on Kuch Kuch Hota hai to become an integral part of Dharma productions and has assisted Karan on all his films ever since. He assisted Karan on Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Kal ho na ho(2003), and was associate director on Kabhi Alvida na Kehna (2006). Morever he also assisted on Mohabbatein (2000) and Paheli (2005)
Convinced that he had found his calling, Mansukhani decided to write his own script and attach himself to direct and this is how Dostana was born. Tarun has served as writer and director on this film. He is also currently working on his next film which will be an animation film called kootchie kootchie Hota Hai for Dharma productions which is slated for release in (2009).

Mini Biography :
Born in Mumbai, India, on 17th December 1972, John Abraham is one of the most successful male models in India. His father is a Christian from Aluva, Kerala, and his mother is a Zoroastrian Parsi. Being Catholic, his father added the name Abraham to his son John as a mark of respect to the first patriarch and progenitor of the Hebrew people in the Bible.
That name gave him a noted stand when he entered the modeling field. His revolutionary looks, macho body, baby smiles, and nice character made him the highest-paid supermodel in India. Being a hot star in the modeling world, he made his film debut in 2003. Not like usual Bollywood heroes who debut in male-oriented action features, he accepted the erotic and emotional Jism (2003). Unfortunately the film did not do well, but his work was noticed widely. Later the same year came the paranormal Saaya (2003) and romantic Paap (2003), neither of which did well at box office.His first blockbuster smash hit came in the year 2004 when he played the antihero Kabir in Dhoom (2004).
KIRRON KHER
Kirron Kher was born into a Jatt Sikh family on the 14th June 1955 in Mumbai, India. She studied at the Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjab.
Though Kirron Kher made her debut in a Punjabi movie Aasra Pyar Da (1983), she stayed away from the arc lights to bring up her son. She worked as a costume designer and appeared in Pestonjee (1988). In 1999, she walked away with the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Bariwali (1999) as a woman who loses her fiancé and withdraws into a shell.Sardari Begum (2002) saw her as a singer and courtesan who dies when she is hit by a stone during the communal riots. Her performance won her another National Film Award – Special Jury Award. Her other releases in 2002 were Darmiyan and Devdas In 2004, Kirron won the Bronze Leopard Award at the Locarno International Festival for her role as a mother to a radical son in Khamosh Pani. In Main Hoon Na (2004) she played Shah Rukh Khan’s step mother. She continued to play mother to Rani Mukherji in Hum Tum (2004), Preity Zinta in Veer Zaara (2004), Aamir Khan in Rang De Basanti (2006) and Kajol in Fanaa (2006). She was part of Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007) as Shah Rukh Khan’s mother. Her role was comical in the beginning and took a tragic turn in the later part as she mourns for her dead son. In Dostana (2008) she played Abhishek Bachchan’s mother who thinks her son is gay and all hell breaks loose until she decides to extend her full support to him despite his protests.
BOMAN IRANI
Boman Irani was born on 1st October 1962 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is part of the Parsi community. He is married to Parizad Zoranbia and has two sons called Danesh and Kayur. He started out selling potato chips. Before long, photography appealed to him and then later it was the call of theater. He has worked with Alyque Padamsee in the play Roshni and in Mahatma Vs Mahatma by Feroz Abbas Khan.
He grew into a familiar face when he started working in ads like CEAT Tyres and Smyle Cough Syrup. He received offers to work in movies in supporting roles and his presence in movies has grown stronger over the years. In 2000, he worked with Shah Rukh Khan in Josh and in Rahul Bose’s Everybody Says I’m Fine (2001) as a man who has molests his daughter. He worked in another big hit Munnabhai MBBS (2003) as Dr.J.C.Asthana and as an editor in Madhur Bhandarkar’s critically acclaimed movie Page 3 (2005). In the dark comedy Being Cyrus (2006) he played a role that was on the negative side. He has done his share of comedy with movies like Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd (2007) and Heyy Babyy (2007). Dostana (2008) was a commercial success and saw him as a gay editor of a fashion magazine.
In the early part of 2009, he was seen as the fun loving Burman Presswala in Little Zizou. He is working in another big project called Three Idiots which stars Aamir Khan and will be in the sequel Munnabhai Chale Amerika.
